Continuous innovations in modern technology have resulted in thinner flat-screen TVs. Most, if not all, of these flat TV models, are wall-mountable, which is an excellent way to save floor space and give your home an open space for a less clunky vibe.

If you prefer to have an entertainment system, you can still do so with a wall-mounted TV installation. In fact, it gives you greater freedom in selecting the design and size of the furniture. With the TV above it, mounted on an adjustable bracket, you need not worry much about the TV height and angle.

TV wall mounts come in various sizes to fit any TV size. There are also many types to choose from, each with its own functionalities and features. If you are looking to trade in your old TV set for a flat screen, it is a good idea to start looking for a wall mount too that would go well with your set and home space. The following are your options when it comes to TV wall brackets:

Flat Wall Mount or A Fixed Bracket

The flat mount or fixed bracket is the most basic type. It enables you to mount your TV almost flush against the wall, with about one inch of clearance. It does not, however, give you the option to adjust or tilt your screen once it is mounted.

When you buy a flat-screen TV today, it would most likely come with a plain fixed wall mount, including the needed fasteners. If you plan to use it, make sure that you are mounting the screen at the sitting eye level of around 40 to 42 inches from the ground or a height that gives you a comfortable viewing angle.

Tilting Wall Mount

This type is a bit more expensive. However, with the tilting wall mount, you have the option to adjust the angle of the screen vertically. It is perfect for TV installation where the screen height is not at eye level. For instance, if you want to install the screen above the fireplace, you can do so and just tilt the screen downwards when watching. It is also ideal for the bedroom where you would watch while lying on the bed most often. When you are not using the TV, you can just push it back to its initial position, almost flush against the wall for a neat look.

Swivel Wall Mount

This type is similar to the tilting wall mount, except that it swings left and right instead of vertically. If you want to watch the living room TV, for example, from other parts of the house, the swivel mount is what you need. It can also help you adjust the screen angle away from the glare if your TV is near a big window or bright source of light.

Full Motion Wall Mount

This type of wall mount is the most expensive, but for a good reason. While the tilting and swivel mounts pivot at only one point, this bracket has many pivot points and a foldable arm. It enables you to extend the screen several inches away from the wall while also enabling you to adjust the angle to suit your preference. It is the most versatile and functional of all the TV mount types.

Call in the Professionals

Whatever type of wall mount you end up choosing, it is a good idea to have it installed by a professional. A mounted TV installation requires precise measurements to make sure the hole drilled into your wall does not go to waste. It could also be unsafe for an untrained person to mount the TV and risk it falling later, causing damage, or at worse, accidents. To make sure you enjoy your new flat screen in peace, have it installed by the pros.
